After a 40 mile bike ride, that included consuming over 60 oz. of electrolytes/water, a flat tire, and getting a blister the size of Mars on my thumb (see photos) I was still feeling good and decided to run around the Lady Bird trail. I wasn't sure exactly when I'd turn around or which loop I'd take, but I was optimistic. It was right around the I-35 footbridge that I decided to go for the full 7 mile loop. Of course it's a gradual 1 mile uphill from the north to the south, and it was extremely hot and humid. I started to get the chills right around Travis Heights and thought to myself, "I'll stop at that mini mart up ahead to cool down."
WRONG. I didn't see any water in the fountain machine (right next to the register), and when I asked if they had any tap water he said they had bottled water, but I didn't have a dime on me. According to the Kenny Rodgers look-alike who works there I had "apparently not prepared well enough to be out running in the heat." He said a few other things, and I just decided to leave. Thank God for RunTex and the water coolers at Auditorium Shores. They were my saving grace, and I completed my run without incident.
If I had gone down, however, and required rescue by 911, I would have been sure to utter the words "Town Lake Food Mart did this to me" to any news crews in earshot.

That happened to me once when we were living in Georgetown. A million degrees outside, blazing sunshine and me on a 13-miler. Desperate for water, I asked the woman behind the counter of some convenience store for some tap water. She looked at me like I was a leper and told me "no." No tap water. Right. Okay. Whatever. I was kind of hoping I would collapse so I could sue, but it didn't work out.
I'll spread the word amongst my runner friends to boycott.
They don't know who they're messing with when they mess with you.
You should post your story on the Runtex forums...
that sucks......they suck...... i am on the boycott train with ya.
