Getting Back into the Swing of Things

After 3 PT appointments and a seriously painful sports massage, I think I'm officially on the road to recovery from my shin splint. While I realize I often look like I've got a big wound or "tattoo gone bad" on my leg, the taping of my shin is also helping, just providing that little extra support and gentle reminder to go easy when striking the ground. There are a lot of contributors to the problem, none of which are actually near the area that hurts, so my list of daily homework is long...but the good news is that it's working!

Our workout on Tuesday was difficult, and I started off entirely too fast, but I was at or below my 10K pace, and I feel good about that. I thought my legs would be sore on Wednesday. Just a little stiff, but that seems to be fairly normal for me as I enter old age.

I also got back on the bike this week, in some serious headwind, but it was good to get the blood flowing again. It had been 10 days since Longhorn, and it amazes me how quickly you lose fitness. But that WIND. Yuck - and to think it only gets worse (and colder) in the winter.

The other thing I've been doing a lot of lately is reading. Lots of books. Loving it. I forget how much I enjoy that, and I've been flying through books. Save one, which is one of those that for some reason I'm struggling getting through. Not sure if it's the writing style, the subject matter, or what exactly, but I'm determined I will finish it. Just may take me a year to do it.

On a totally unrelated note: Why on earth is Matt Lauer introducing Cosmo's 50 Hottest Bachelors on The Today Show right now? And why are all these hot bachelors at least 10 years younger than I am? The tragedy...
