I guess USAA isn't the best insurance company in the world, after all. Sure they have good coverage. They're also nice when they explain to you that your policy covers a rental that will be direct billed while your car is in the shop. They even laugh at your lame jokes when you tell the story about how Enterprise is scamming the public by putting water in the gas tanks. They are also proactive by calling you with new information on how to put the claim behind you and even tease you a little by saying they'll cover it all.
They even ask you how your Thanksgiving holiday was and talk about how they're still eating leftovers while they also tell you that you're still responsible for the $250 deductible for the damages (that you did not do in the first place). They apologize profusely when they say they can't do more. They giggle at the genius of paying it with your MasterCard while citing MasterCard's insurance coverage that will essentially reimburse you for the deductible.
But then they don't respond when you tell them that MasterCard will NOT, in fact, reimburse you when USAA direct billed Enterprise in the first place.
All I really want to do is throw myself on the ground and have a colossal tantrum (just like kids do). Somehow, though, I suspect that's not really appropriate behavior for an adult.

UGH! That sucks so much. I'm sorry, Shorey. We work with insurance companies all the time, so I know where you are coming from. And USAA IS one of the best.
Just imagine if you were with SF... they don't even answer the phones in the claims dept. And when you do get someone to listen, it's... " why didn't you buy the rental insurance?" I LOVE USAA.
And go ahead and throw youself down and have a tizzy tantrum... works for me... except when I do it at work!
I'm sooo sorry!!!
There's no age limit on tantrums being thrown on the floor. Just sayin.'
Throw the tantrum!
Yes, throw yourself on the floor, and splish splash around as if you are at the beach and 5 years old.
Then, call Enterprise, and demand to talk to the Sr Manager, and don't give up until they stop harrassing you. Towards the end of your fuse, tell them how much bad publicity you're going to give them, better business bureau, blogs, online forums, local and national newspaper columns, emails out to all friends etc. Tell them you can't help but share YOUR ridiculous experience with them, and can't believe a billion dollar operation refuses to cover a few hundred dollars of something they CLEARLY know you didn't do. What do you have to lose?
You'd be surprised how good you will feel after your tantrum.
Go ahead! Give it a whirl! :)
