Voyeur

Have you ever hit the "next blog" link at the top of the page on Blogger? I had never really done that until the other day and what I discovered was really fascinating. Namely, I read blogs from all over the world covering a variety of topics, such as:
  • weddings/newlyweds
  • adoptions
  • photography portfolios
  • construction projects in S. America
  • poetry
  • birthdays
  • religion
  • politics
  • rural families buying horses
  • recipes
  • arts & crafts
  • families
  • artwork & design
  • homeschooling
  • movies
  • PC/Networking/Development
  • vacations
  • online shopping

I also read specific stories or tributes about:

  • new births
  • birthdays
  • pneumonia
  • cancer
  • hospital stays

It's easy to get wrapped up in blogging, and it would be easy to peruse the blog world for hours and hours. It's interesting to see into other people's lives, look at pictures of momentous events, read what people think is important or fun or tragic. One unusual blog was of an Army soldier who wrote about his favorite childhood guitar that finally gave into wear and tear, followed by a post of a favorite recipe, followed by a post that included poetry he had written. Another belonged to a 7 year old girl from Taiwan, whose entire blog was written in "IM Speak."

Reading all of these strangers' blogs is a bit like reading Post Secret every Sunday: a glimpse into others' lives that shows you how similar we all really are.
