I went out to Berry Springs Park today in Georgetown to check out the bike/run course for the Howdy Du on Sunday. During my ride I did a nifty little jacknife on my bike after slamming on my brakes to avoid a deer leaping at full speed across the road. Turns out it was being chased by a dog in a large fenced-in yard, and had gained speed to clear the fence. Thank goodness for my brakes and wherewithall to actually stop in time, because the poor deer did not have enough speed to clear me as well.
Then, as I transitioned to check out the run course, I looked down at the sidewalk and wondered, "What IS that thing?" Upon closer inspection it was a crawdad. When I took his picture he got all ornery.
Then when I tried to turn him around so he was headed TOWARD the creek, he burried himself in the grass as he was having none of it. A passerby said they are all over the place out there - in the grass, on the path, everywhere. That should make for fast transitions!

wow! That was an eventful workout! I'm sorry I missed it :) We drove the course after Suellen's 5K, around 9:30 or 10. Looks a bit hilly and lots of sharp turns! The park is pretty though.
