V-Day

No, not the "obvious" one today...

The 2008 V-Day Campaign is coming to Austin! V-Day is a benefit production of Eve Ensler’s award-winning play, “The Vagina Monologues,” raising money and awareness for organizations that work to stop violence against women and girls. This event, featuring a guest appearance by Eve Ensler herself, will be held at the Enchanted Forest on March 14, 2008 from 6-11pm. Donations/proceeds on ticket sales for this event will be given directly to:

  • The Service Women's Action Network: a group of military service women and allies creating a support network for military service women and women considering military service.
  • The Katrina Warriors Network: a diverse body of individuals, affinities, organizations, and institutions supporting and enhancing the well-being of women and girls in New Orleans and the Gulf South.
  • The Settlement Home for Children: the Austin-based Center provides 27 beds for girls between the ages of 7 and 17, who are in need of 24-hour therapeutic care.

In 2007, V-Day took place in over 1100 venues around the world, with over 2300 performances reaching over 600,000 audience members. Since its inception V-Day has raised over $50 million for local organizations dedicated to ending violence against women. In 2008 V-Day Austin will be one of thousands of events around the world channeling creative energy into making a difference as part of the V-Day Campaign. If you're interested in sponsoring the event or attending the show, please go to the V-Day Austin website.
