Decker 20K

This won't be a long race report because pretty much everyone who reads this was also out there in some capacity. I will, however, say the following:
  • This was my first time to do this 12.4 mile race.
  • I know the course well from the bike leg of Danskin & Couples triathlons, and expected it to be much harder to run than it actually was.
  • Because of the long stretches of road, the mile markers were very easy to see (as opposed to winding course routes where you don't see the markers until you're right on them). This made the miles seem to fly by.
  • My paces for miles 1-4, 6-7 & 12 were almost dead-on consistent (+/- 5 secs). This is a huge achievement for me.
  • My HMGP is about 9:00/mi, and I expected this race would be slightly slower. The high humidity made it a must for me to stop at every water stop, so I'm sure that added about 45 seconds at each break. Overall pace was 9:13/mi.
  • Considering this is early in my half marathon training to be racing at this distance, and my efforts to do so this summer went bust, I'm pleased with my performance.
  • Shin splint didn't bother me at all during the run.
  • I would definitely do this race again, but add in the historical freezing temps and ice winds and I'd probably decide to sleep in.

So that's it. Nothing fancy in this race report. Just the facts.
